In this experiment, total protein extracts from several bacterial sources are extracted and compared. The unique patterns of protein bands, obtained by SDS vertical polyacrylamide electrophoresis, can be used to identify various bacterial strains.

  • For 6 lab groups (sharing 3 gels)
  • Grow up colonies overnight, electrophoresis 60 minutes, staining 2 to 3 hours

Also required: 3 polyacrylamide gels (12%), vertical gel electrophoresis apparatus, power supply, microcentrifuge, incubator, white light box, 5 to 50 µl adjustable or 15, 20 and 25 µl fixed volume micropipettes, fine tips, methanol, and glacial acetic acid.

Delivery information: Kit includes instructions, fish LyphProtein samples, protein molecular weight standards, practice gel loading solution, buffer, and Protein InstaStain.
